Munitions Explosives Removal

Versar is currently performing range maintenance surface and limited subsurface clearance operations to safely locate, identify, assess the condition of, mark, and dispose of Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.  Versar provides all personnel, equipment, and supplies to perform sustained range clearance operations; grid dimensions are 1 square kilometer in size.  Versar teams are required to clear at least 30 grids per month.  To date (from contract start March 2010), our teams have cleared 316 grids without a single Government Failure or Explosive Accident/Incident.

Versar also performs periodic removal of target debris and performs UXO clearance activities for construction support and archeological activities on an as needed basis.  Other tasks include the removal of small arms brass, penetrator caps and other forms of expended cartridges including ATWESS and Hoffman simulators.
